Preparing to install your hot tub or sauna

Most difficulties in a project are settled before the order: ground, access, water, electricity. Here is the list of what to check, without turning it into an obstacle course.

The ground or base

A filled tub and an assembled sauna are heavy. You need flat, stable, load-bearing ground: a slab, a deck designed for the load, or a properly sized base. Exact weights are to be confirmed by the manufacturer for your model; for a sauna, the wooden structure of the BS16 barrel weighs 600 kg, for example, accessories extra.

Water and drainage (tubs)

A hot tub or cold plunge tub is filled from a water point and emptied somewhere the water can run away. Volume ranges from 350 l to 1,900 l depending on the model: work out where the water will go.

Electricity

  • Wood-fired hot tub: no supply for the base configuration; one is needed for jets, filtration, lighting or electric heating.
  • Cold plunge tub: a supply is needed with a chiller.
  • Sauna: the electric heater is connected by a qualified electrician, single- or three-phase depending on the heater.

Access and delivery

The product is delivered to the address given. The truck must be able to reach the site, and the route to the location must allow unloading: tail lift if needed, possibly a crane (not included). An assembled sauna is bulkier than a tub.

Chimney, neighbours and planning

A wood stove needs a chimney: its position must comply with local rules and your neighbours. For a sauna, local planning rules should be checked according to the size and location. These checks are your responsibility; the town hall is the usual contact.

And the installation itself?

Installation, site preparation, electrical connection and any crane are not included in the displayed prices. State your need in the quote request: the answer will be given in writing.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check before ordering?

Truck access, the route to the location, a flat load-bearing base, and for saunas or electrical options, a suitable supply.

Can I put a hot tub on my deck?

Only if it can carry the weight of the filled tub. The exact weight is to be confirmed with the manufacturer and, if needed, with a building professional.

Specifications come from the manufacturer’s catalogue; anything still to be confirmed is flagged. This site is a demonstration: no online payment.
